Autism is a brain disorder that affects a child’s behavior and ability to communicate. It ranges from mild to severe and covers a large spectrum of symptoms. Around 1% of U.S. children from birth to age 21 have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, according to the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities.

The health law will provide families with more coverage for autism services depending upon the state where a child lives. I wrote this Q & A for WebMD to help explain the coverage under the new health law.
