I’m proud that a story I wrote for Cancer Today won an honorable mention by Folio, a New York City-based organization that recognizes the best in magazine publishing. My story, “The Costs of Cancer,” looked at the out-of-pocket costs that a diagnosis can incur. Many people don’t realize how fast the bills can pile up, making bankruptcy a possibility for someone who is already sick with cancer. The story is of growing importance as health care costs have escalated. I won under the category of “Eddie award” for a story running in a magazine published by an association or non-profit. The American Association for Cancer Research publishes Cancer Today.
